800 Million Reasons We Started Z Network

Where the number comes from.
Africa’s population is around 1.5 billion, and more than 60 percent of it is under 25. That alone is roughly 900 million young people. The Arab world adds 501 million people as of 2025, projected to reach 548 million by the end of the decade, with those aged 15 to 29 making up close to 30 percent. Adjust for the overlap across North Africa and the young population across these two regions comfortably clears 800 million.
They are online, or they are about to be.
By ITU’s 2025 count, 70 percent of people in the Arab States use the internet. Africa sits at 36 percent, against 88 to 93 percent across Europe, the Americas and the CIS, and 77 percent in Asia-Pacific. Those averages hide enormous spread: Morocco is above 92 percent, the highest in Africa, while much of the continent has barely started.
The direction of travel is what matters. GSMA puts smartphone adoption in Sub-Saharan Africa at 54 percent in 2024, forecast to reach 81 percent by 2030. The region is expected to account for close to a quarter of all new mobile internet subscribers worldwide between 2025 and 2030. No other region is adding users at that rate.

So why does the digital space still feel empty?
It is not demand. It is capital. Africa is about 18 percent of the world’s population and roughly 5 percent of global GDP, but it receives on average around 0.6 percent of global venture capital annually. In 2025, African startups raised roughly 3.9 to 4.1 billion dollars across some 506 deals. That was a strong year by African standards, the best since 2022, and the only region globally where deal volume did not decline. It is also less than a single large late-stage round in the United States.
The content follows the capital.
This is why the internet feels thin in Arabic and in most African languages. Fewer than one percent of web pages are in Arabic by ITU’s estimate, with more generous counts reaching around five percent, serving more than 237 million native speakers. The youngest, fastest-growing and fastest-connecting population on earth is being served platforms and content designed somewhere else, for someone else, in a language that is not the one they think in.
That gap is the entire thesis.
800 million is not a slide in a fundraising deck. It is a description of a market that is underserved today and will be more underserved every year that the population grows faster than the products built for it.
